Whimsical
Posts allow teams to communicate calmly and intentionally. It’s a place to share updates, ask questions, and discuss ideas.
The situation
For async teams, it’s important to have a durable medium to have communicate ideas. While chat is great for quick questions, it’s not ideal for longer-form communication. This is especially true for teams that are distributed across time zones. Slack messages get lost in the backscroll; docs are hard to find. And lets not even talk about email.
The opportunity
Posts are a microblogging feature tied to Whimsical’s projects and teams. They can be used for status updates, feedback requests, decision logs, and more. Categories are customizable, allowing teams to organize their posts in a way that makes sense for them.
When creating a post, you can choose a category and compose your message using rich text. Each category can use a template to ensure consistency and speed. When ready to publish, the author can adjust who’s notified.
Posts are displayed in a feed, where you can browse, comment and react. You can filter by category to narrow in on the content you’re interested in.
Discussion is essential. Posts support inline and post-level comments, allowing for focused conversations.
When published, project team members and followers are automatically notified. For broader visibility, Posts can also be broadcast to Slack channels.
The outcome
In Whimsical, Posts have become a central hub for team communication. They provide a space for teams to communicate important information in a thoughtful, calm manner. This has helped reduce the noise in other channels, giving people the space to focus on their work without distraction.
